I see that the Black Movie Awards are airing Oct. 19th on TNT. I pulled a face and snickered when I first saw the advert on TV. I couldn't remember so I automatically wondered if this is yet another award show where anything featuring a black person (or someone who is 'of color' or is a friend of black people) gets nominated, regardless of quality?
Yes. It is.
I checked out the main site and received ghastly confirmation: Meagan Good nominated for Outstanding Performance By An Actress in a Leading Role for D.E.B.S. Yikes! Yikes! And yikes again!
But then I stopped the Snark Attack (even though there is plenty more evidence on the site suggesting I would be totally within my rights to relaunch it) because who am I kidding? I will watch it and I will enjoy it.
Thankfully, the low rent behavior factor will be in check (even though I heard the King of R&B cum reality TV star showed up. Whose plus one was he?) and it will be fun to see which black celebs showed up and, of course, what they wore.
Extra bonus: Ceddy Ced is the host!
One question though: Does absolutely EVERYONE in Black Hollywood get an invite?
Further: What's the criteria? What's considered Black Hollywood really? Who gets left off the list? Who would never be caught dead in attendance?
FYI: She didn't win. Kimberly Elise received that honor for Diary of A Mad Black Woman. I don't think Elise ever imagined she'd keep picking up awards for this particular role, given her background includes stronger, more dramatic work. The Lord works in mysterious ways.....
